Role SummaryWe are looking for a skilled and trustworthy Gold Appraiser to join our team at Popley & Sons Jewellers. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in gold purity testing, valuation, and customer interaction. Experience with XRF testing (Fischer preferred), touchstone testing, and gold melting will be an added advantage.

• Key ResponsibilitiesGold ValuationAssess and evaluate gold ornaments, coins, bars, and bullion to determine purity, weight, and market value.
• Provide accurate valuations for gold buying, exchange, and internal assessment.
• Gold TestingTest gold purity using XRF machines (Fischer preferred), touchstone, and acid testing methods.
• Verify karatage and identify mixed metals or impurities.
• Melting & AssayingCarry out controlled melting of gold, where required, to determine the exact purity and recoverable value.
• Ensure complete transparency and documentation throughout the melting process.
• Weight VerificationWeigh gold accurately using calibrated electronic weighing scales before and after testing or melting.
• Price CalculationCalculate the final value based on purity, net weight, wastage (where applicable), and prevailing gold market rates.
• DocumentationMaintain accurate records of gold received, tested, melted, and valued.
• Prepare valuation reports and update ERP records as per company procedures.
• Customer ServiceExplain the valuation process and results professionally.
• Address customer queries with confidence and courtesy.
• Security & ComplianceFollow strict security protocols while handling high-value precious metals.
• Maintain complete confidentiality, integrity, and compliance with company policies.
• Equipment MaintenanceOperate and maintain XRF testing equipment, melting furnaces, weighing scales, and other appraisal tools.
• Additional ResponsibilitiesSupport stock verification, audits, and other operational activities as assigned by management.
• Preferred Candidate ProfileExperience1–4 years of experience as a Gold Appraiser, Gold Tester, Gold Buyer, or Gold Loan Appraiser in a jewellery showroom, gold buying centre, refinery, or gold loan company.
• EducationMinimum 12th Pass.
• Commerce background or Jewellery-related certification preferred.
• Technical SkillsHands-on experience in XRF testing (Fischer preferred).
• Knowledge of touchstone and acid testing techniques.
• Experience in gold melting and purity assessment.
• Familiarity with ERP software and documentation.
• Core CompetenciesExcellent numerical and analytical skills.
• High accuracy in weight measurement and gold valuation.
• Good understanding of current gold market rates.
• Strong attention to detail and process compliance.
