Job Purpose

The Production & Maintenance Manager will be responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient production operations and reliable machine performance. The role will look after machine maintenance, preventive and breakdown maintenance activities, and supervise Production Team Leaders to ensure that production targets, quality standards, safety requirements, and delivery schedules are achieved.

The Manager will act as the link between Production, Maintenance, Quality, Stores, and Management, ensuring that production runs with minimum downtime and maximum efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Management

• Ensure production targets are achieved as per the production plan and customer requirements.
• Supervise and guide Production Team Leaders in managing their respective shifts/production areas.
• Ensure production activities are carried out according to approved processes and work instructions.
• Identify production bottlenecks and take corrective action.
• Monitor production efficiency, output, rejection, rework, and downtime.
• Conduct regular meetings with Team Leaders to review production performance and issues.
• Ensure proper shift handover and communication between teams.

2. Machine Maintenance

• Take overall responsibility for the maintenance and operational reliability of production machinery and equipment.
• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
• Ensure timely servicing, inspection, lubrication, calibration, and replacement of machine components.
• Coordinate and supervise breakdown maintenance activities.
• Minimize machine breakdowns and unplanned downtime.
• Analyze recurring machine failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Maintain records of machine breakdowns, repairs, spare parts, and maintenance history.
• Coordinate with external service providers/OEMs for major repairs and technical support when required.
• Ensure critical spare parts are identified and maintained at appropriate stock levels.

3. Supervision of Team Leaders

• Guide, monitor, and evaluate Production Team Leaders.
• Ensure Team Leaders effectively manage operators and production activities.
• Set clear daily and shift-wise expectations for Team Leaders.
• Review their performance against production, quality, safety, and discipline requirements.
• Provide coaching and technical/operational guidance to Team Leaders.
• Address manpower, performance, discipline, and operational issues promptly.
• Ensure proper communication between management and shop-floor teams.

4. Production & Maintenance Coordination

• Coordinate closely with Production and Maintenance teams to reduce machine downtime.
• Prioritize maintenance activities based on production requirements and machine criticality.
• Plan preventive maintenance during suitable production stoppages wherever possible.
• Ensure maintenance work does not unnecessarily affect production schedules.
• Work with Production Team Leaders to identify machine-related issues affecting productivity or quality.
• Ensure machines are released for production only after necessary maintenance/repair checks.

5. Quality & Process Control

• Ensure production is carried out according to defined quality standards.
• Work with the Quality team to identify and eliminate causes of rejection and rework.
• Investigate machine-related quality problems and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure operators follow approved operating procedures and process parameters.
• Promote a "Right First Time" approach across production activities.

6. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all production and maintenance activities are conducted safely.
• Ensure machine guards, safety devices, emergency stops, and other safety systems are functional.
• Enforce proper PPE usage and safe working practices.
• Ensure maintenance personnel follow appropriate isolation/lockout procedures.
• Report and investigate unsafe conditions and incidents.
• Support implementation of company safety policies and statutory requirements.

7. Manpower & Training

• Assess manpower requirements for production and maintenance activities.
• Identify skill gaps among Team Leaders, operators, and maintenance personnel.
• Arrange or recommend technical and operational training.
• Develop multi-skilled manpower wherever practical.
• Ensure new employees receive appropriate process, machine, and safety training.

8. Reporting & Documentation

Prepare and review regular reports covering:

• Production output vs. target
• Machine downtime
• Breakdown frequency and duration
• Preventive maintenance status
• Machine availability
• Production efficiency
• Rejection and rework
• Manpower utilization
• Maintenance costs
• Spare-parts consumption
• Major production/maintenance issues and corrective actions

Present key performance information and improvement plans to management.

Qualifications

• Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Production Engineering, or a related field.
• Relevant technical qualification with strong practical experience may also be considered.
• Typically 3-6 years of experience in production and/or industrial machine maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing environment. (Injection Moulding machine/CNC)

Required Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of industrial machinery ( Injection Moulding/CNC ) and maintenance practices.
• Preventive and breakdown maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Production planning and shop-floor management.
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions.
• Understanding of OEE, downtime analysis, and productivity improvement.
• Knowledge of quality and safety practices.
• Ability to read machine manuals, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Basic computer skills for production and maintenance reporting.

Authority & Decision-Making

The Production & Maintenance Manager should have authority to:

• Allocate production manpower and responsibilities through Team Leaders.
• Prioritize maintenance activities based on production requirements and machine criticality.
• Stop unsafe machine/production activities where necessary.
• Recommend machine repairs, replacements, and improvements.
• Recommend spare-parts requirements.
• Escalate major production, quality, maintenance, or manpower issues to management.
• Recommend disciplinary action or performance improvement measures where appropriate.
• Recommend investments or modifications that improve machine reliability and production efficiency.

Overall Responsibility

The primary objective of this position is to ensure that production targets are achieved efficiently, safely, and with minimum machine downtime by effectively managing both the production team and machine maintenance activities.
