Job Description

Position: Project Manager – Power Distribution

Location: Delhi NCR

Department: Projects & Operations

Reporting To: General Manager / Head – Projects

Industry: Power Distribution / Electrical EPC

1. Job Purpose:- To independently manage and execute power distribution projects in Delhi NCR, ensuring timely completion of works within approved budgets, quality standards, contractual requirements and safety norms.

The Project Manager will be responsible for overall project planning, execution, manpower management, client coordination, material planning, billing, documentation and operational performance.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Project Execution

  • Manage end-to-end execution of power distribution projects from mobilization to completion and handover.
  • Plan and supervise 33kV, 11kV and LT distribution works, including overhead and underground systems.
  • Manage installation, maintenance, shifting, augmentation and replacement of electrical distribution infrastructure.
  • Ensure project activities are executed as per approved drawings, BOQ, specifications and work orders.
  • Monitor daily progress against project schedules and take corrective action wherever required.
  • Ensure timely closure of site issues, breakdowns, complaints and pending works.

B. Client & DISCOM CoordinationCoordinate with DISCOM officials, client representatives, engineers, site teams and other stakeholders.

  • Attend regular review meetings with clients and submit project progress updates.
  • Maintain effective coordination for shutdowns, permits, inspections, approvals and work clearances.
  • Address client complaints and ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain professional relationships with client officials and ensure contractual compliance.

C. Manpower & Team Management

  • Plan manpower requirements based on project workload and targets.
  • Manage Project Engineers, Site Engineers, Supervisors, Foremen, Linemen and other field personnel.
  • Allocate manpower and resources effectively across various sites.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity and deployment of manpower.
  • Ensure adequate manpower availability for emergency and breakdown activities.
  • Conduct regular site meetings and communicate daily/weekly targets to the team.

D. Material, Vehicle & Equipment Management

  • Coordinate with procurement and stores for timely availability of project materials.
  • Prepare material requirement plans based on project schedules.
  • Monitor consumption, stock and movement of materials at sites.
  • Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment.
  • Avoid material shortages, wastage and unnecessary inventory accumulation.

E. Billing & Commercial Coordination

  • Coordinate with the billing/accounts team for timely preparation and submission of RA Bills.
  • Ensure measurement books, joint measurements, work completion certificates and supporting documents are properly maintained.
  • Track certification, billing and payment status.
  • Monitor project BOQ quantities, variations, additional works and deviations.
  • Identify commercial risks and communicate them to management.

F. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure strict compliance with electrical safety procedures and client safety requirements.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and implementation of work permits, shutdown procedures and safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings/toolbox talks and site inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory labour requirements and company safety policies.
  • Immediately report and investigate accidents, near misses and safety violations.

G. MIS & Reporting

  • Submit daily progress reports (DPR) and weekly/monthly project MIS.
  • Track project targets, manpower, material, productivity, billing and pending works.
  • Maintain project-wise trackers for:
  • Work orders
  • BOQ quantities
  • Material
  • Manpower
  • Complaints
  • Billing
  • Client approvals
  • Project completion
  • Present project performance and critical issues to senior management.

3. Technical ResponsibilitiesThe candidate should have practical knowledge of:

  • 33kV / 11kV / LT distribution systems
  • HT/LT overhead and underground networks
  • Distribution transformers (DTR)
  • RMU, VCB, AB Switch, GO Switch and electrical panels
  • HT/LT cable laying and termination
  • Cable jointing and fault identification
  • Poles, structures and conductor works
  • Transformer installation and replacement
  • Metering and service connections
  • Earthing and lightning protection
  • Electrical testing and commissioning
  • Shutdown and restoration procedures
  • Preventive and breakdown maintenance
  • Electrical safety and statutory requirements
  • Reading SLDs, drawings, BOQs and technical specifications

4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)The Project Manager will be evaluated on:

  • Timely completion of projects
  • Achievement of monthly execution targets
  • Manpower productivity
  • Material utilization and control
  • Billing and revenue achievement
  • Reduction in pending works/complaints
  • Quality of execution
  • Safety performance
  • Client satisfaction
  • Cost control and project profitability
  • Timely submission of MIS/DPR
  • Successful project handover and closure

5. Qualification & ExperienceEducation:

  • B.Tech / B.E. / Diploma in Electrical Engineering preferred.

Experience:

  • 8–12 years of experience in electrical power distribution/EPC projects.
  • Experience working with DISCOMs / Tata Power / BSES / NDMC / NPCL or similar power utilities will be preferred.
  • Candidates with experience in Delhi NCR power distribution projects will be given preference.

  • Client coordination and negotiation skills
  • Good knowledge of BOQ, billing and measurements
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Ability to handle multiple sites/projects
  • Good knowledge of MS Excel and MS Office
  • Knowledge of project MIS and reporting
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and team-management skills

7. Preferred Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate should be a hands-on Project Manager who can independently manage multiple power distribution sites in Delhi NCR, coordinate with DISCOM officials, control manpower and materials, resolve field-level issues and ensure achievement of execution and billing targets.

The role requires extensive field involvement and regular site visits across Delhi NCR.
