Job Description

  • Listen: Counselors listen to clients' concerns and feelings. 
  • Empathize: Counselors try to understand what their clients are going through. 
  • Set goals: Counselors help clients define goals and plan actions to achieve them. 
  • Refer clients: Counselors may refer clients to other services, such as psychologists, if needed. 
  • Provide crisis intervention: Counselors help clients who are experiencing a mental health crisis, such as self-harm, divorce, or addiction relapse. 
  • Build relationships: Counselors build trust and respect with clients. 
  • Develop therapeutic processes: Counselors may develop therapeutic processes to help clients cope with their challenges. 
  • Keep records: Counselors keep confidential records of their clients' sessions
