Job Description
Their work is essential in the manufacturing industry, as they play a key role in producing precision parts and tools.
Their duties and responsibilities include:
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, or work orders to determine the specifications and sequence of operations
- Setting up, operating and maintaining lathe machines to perform tasks such as cutting, sanding, drilling, and finishing parts and materials
- Inspecting the finished products to ensure conformity to specifications and accuracy of dimensions
- Adjusting the machine settings to control speed, material feed and path of the cut, as well as making sure the machines are set up properly, working well, and producing quality product
- Maintaining machinery, including cleaning and oiling parts, and replacing worn or damaged components as necessary
- Monitoring lathe operation, making minor adjustments as necessary
