Terracotta Project Officer – Job Description
Position: Project Officer – Terracotta / Artisan Livelihood
Department: Programme / Livelihoods
Reports to: Project Manager / Programme Manager
Location: Project field area
Employment: Full-time
Job Purpose:
To coordinate and implement the terracotta livelihood project, working closely with artisans, producer groups, community institutions, government departments, buyers, designers and other stakeholders. The officer will ensure timely achievement of project targets related to artisan mobilisation, skill development, production, product development, market linkage and income enhancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Mobilise and coordinate terracotta artisans and artisan groups.
- Conduct field visits and assess artisan needs, skills and production capacity.
- Support formation/strengthening of SHGs, producer groups, cooperatives or artisan collectives.
- Coordinate training, skill-development and capacity-building programmes.
- Support product development, design innovation, quality improvement and standardisation.
- Coordinate procurement and distribution of raw materials, tools and equipment.
- Monitor production, inventory, quality and delivery schedules.
- Develop market linkages with retailers, exhibitions, online platforms, institutional buyers and exporters.
- Support branding, packaging, cataloguing and promotion of terracotta products.
- Coordinate with government departments, NGOs, designers, trainers and market partners.
- Maintain beneficiary, production, sales and financial records.
- Track project indicators and prepare monthly/quarterly progress reports.
- Document success stories, case studies, photographs and project learnings.
- Monitor project expenditure and ensure activities are implemented within approved budgets.
- Identify implementation challenges and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure inclusion of women and vulnerable artisan households in project activities.
- Undertake any other project-related responsibilities assigned by the Project Manager.
Eligibility
- Graduate in Rural Development, Social Work, Rural Management, Development Studies, Handicrafts, Fine Arts, Business Management or a related field.
- 1–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in handicrafts, livelihoods, artisan development, rural development or NGO projects.
- Experience working directly with artisan communities is preferred.
- Knowledge of terracotta/pottery production and handicraft value chains would be an advantage.
- Good communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office/Google Workspace and basic data management.
- Willingness to undertake frequent field travel.
- Knowledge of the local language/Hindi is desirable.

- Number of artisans mobilised and trained.
- Number of artisan groups strengthened.
- Production and quality targets achieved.
- New terracotta products developed.
- Sales and market linkages generated.
- Increase in artisan income.
- Timely completion of project activities.

- Effective utilisation of project budget.
