Job Description

Civil Engineer

1.Site Planning & Preparation arrive at the project site before work starts.

  • Conduct a site inspection and identify any safety or technical issues.
  • Review the daily work schedule and assign tasks to supervisors, operators, and labour.
  • Ensure required materials, machinery, drawings, and manpower are available before starting work.

2. Site Execution & Supervision

  • supervise daily execution of CC Road, excavation, drainage, culvert, retaining wall, and other civil works.
  • Ensure all work is carried out according to approved drawings, BOQ, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Guide site supervisors and resolve technical issues during execution.
  • Monitor progress to ensure daily targets are achieved.

3. Survey & Setting Out

Verify centre lines, levels, gradients, and benchmarks before commencing work.

  • Check excavation depths, road widths, and finished levels using surveying equipment.
  • Coordinate with surveyors for layout and measurements.

4. Labour & Contractor Management

Allocate work to labour teams and subcontractors.

  • Monitor labour productivity and attendance.
  • Resolve workforce issues and maintain discipline at the site.
  • Ensure contractors complete work as per agreed timelines.

5. Machinery Management

plan daily utilization of excavators, JCBs, graders, rollers, tippers, mixers, pavers, and other equipment.

  • Coordinate with equipment operators for smooth operations.
  • Report machinery breakdowns and arrange repairs promptly.

6. Material Management

verify receipt and quality of cement, steel, aggregates, sand, concrete, pipes, and other materials.

  • Maintain stock registers and monitor daily material consumption.
  • Prevent material wastage and ensure proper storage.

7.Quality Control

Inspect reinforcement, formwork, concrete placement, finishing, curing, and compaction.

  • Ensure construction complies with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Coordinate field tests such as slump tests, cube tests, density tests, and material inspections.
  • Rectify defects immediately.

8. Quantity Measurement & Billing

Measure completed work quantities daily.

  • Prepare Measurement Book (MB) entries.
  • Update BOQ quantities.
  • Assist in preparation of contractor bills and client RA Bills.
  • Maintain records of executed quantities.

9. Documentation & Reporting

Prepare Daily Progress Reports (DPR).

  • Maintain labour attendance, machinery logs, and material consumption reports.
  • Document delays, weather conditions, and site issues.
  • Capture site photographs for progress records.

10. Client & Department Coordination

Attend meetings with clients, consultants, and government officials.

  • Coordinate inspections and obtain approvals for completed work.
  • Submit progress updates and resolve technical queries.

11. Safety Management

Conduct daily toolbox talks before work begins.

  • Ensure all workers use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Monitor safe excavation practices, traffic management, and equipment operations.
  • Report and investigate any accidents or near misses.

12. Project Monitoring

Compare daily progress with project schedules.

  • Identify delays and prepare recovery plans.
  • Monitor project costs and optimize resource utilization.
  • Ensure timely completion of assigned milestones.

13. End-of-Day Activities

Review completed work and verify quality.

  • Prepare the next day's work plan.
  • Confirm availability of manpower, materials, and equipment for the following day.
  • Submit the Daily Progress Report to the Project Manager/Management.
