Design & Estimation Engineer (Mechanical)

The Design & Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing technical designs, cost estimations, manufacturing drawings, and commercial proposals for Turnkey plants including pressure vessels, storage tanks, heat exchangers, and process equipment for Pharmaceutical and biotech industries. This role involves the interpretation of customer requirements, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards such as GMP, ASME, CE, EHEDG. Also, to coordinate with production and procurement teams, and supporting project execution from enquiry to dispatch.

Key Responsibilities

 Conversant with pharma, biotech and fermenter manufacturing processes.

 Prepare the mechanical design calculation of Fermenter, Reactor, heat exchanger, skid and process equipment.

 Basic knowledge of 2D drawings and 3D models using design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar tools.

 Study the customer requirement / specifications / RFQ / Tender documents and design the equipment to meet the URS requirement

 Able to design pressure vessel, heat exchanger, agitator assembly with cGMP, ASME & CE guidelines. Perform thickness calculations, nozzle reinforcement calculations, saddle/support design, and pressure part verification

 Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and equipment used in pharmaceutical and biotech equipment manufacturing

 Detailed cost estimation

o Material cost

o Labour cost

o Consumables

o Testing & inspection costs

o Transportation and packing costs

 Prepare techno-commercial offers and cost estimates for final submission to the customer

 Prepare Piping and instrumentation diagram (P&Id) for system.

 Preparation of detailed BOM of plant equipment and components

 Coordinate with production, quality and procurement teams for smooth manufacturing.

 Ensure designs meet GMP, safety and hygiene standards required in pharma industries.

 Provide technical support to production teams during fabrication and assembly.

 Conduct design modifications and improvements to optimize manufacturing efficiency.

 Assist as a technical support during equipment installation, testing and commissioning when required.

 Maintain proper design documentation and revision records with change control for the new product development.

Required Skills

 Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles.

 Understanding of pharmaceutical & biotech product manufacturing equipment and processes.

 Proficiency in 2D & 3D design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cadmio, or similar).

 Ability to prepare and guide the team for fabrication drawings and technical documentation.

 Knowledge of SS fabrication, piping layouts and process equipment design.

 Basic understanding of GMP, hygiene design and pharma compliance standards.

 Good communication and coordination skills.

Qualifications

 Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Experience

 Working experience of 5-7 years with process equipment manufacturing for pharmaceutical and biotech industries or pharmaceutical production support will be preferred.

 Pharmaceutical Process equipment such as reactors, vessels, mixers, dryers, filters, process skids and etc.

 Understanding of process piping and utility layouts
