Job Description – Site Safety Officer / EHS Officer

Position Overview

We are looking for a responsible and proactive Site Safety Officer / EHS Officer to ensure a safe and compliant working environment at the construction site. The role will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, implementing EHS procedures, monitoring high-risk activities, conducting training and toolbox talks, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and company safety policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily site safety inspections to identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and potential hazards.
• Ensure all workers, contractors, and staff comply with site safety rules, procedures, and PPE requirements.
• Monitor the proper use of safety helmets, safety shoes, safety harnesses, reflective jackets, gloves, goggles, and other required PPE.
• Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, daily briefings, and safety awareness training for workers, supervisors, and staff.
• Ensure appropriate safety measures are implemented for work at height, scaffolding, excavation, lifting operations, electrical work, hot work, confined spaces, and other high-risk activities.
• Inspect scaffolding, ladders, lifting equipment, machinery, tools, and other safety-related equipment to ensure they are safe and fit for use.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system for hot work, work at height, confined space, electrical work, excavation, lifting, and other hazardous activities.
• Identify and report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents, and accidents to the concerned management.
• Assist in accident and incident investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Prepare and maintain required safety reports, inspection checklists, training records, incident reports, observation reports, and other EHS documentation.
• Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with site-specific safety requirements and EHS procedures.
• Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and compliance checks and follow up on corrective actions.
• Ensure proper housekeeping, access/egress, waste management, and safe storage of materials at the construction site.
• Conduct emergency preparedness inspections and participate in mock drills for fire, evacuation, medical emergencies, and other potential incidents.
• Support the implementation of emergency response plans and fire safety procedures.
• Ensure availability and proper maintenance of fire extinguishers, fire points, emergency equipment, first-aid facilities, and emergency access routes.
• Coordinate with project and construction teams to ensure identified safety issues are corrected within the required timeline.
• Stop or escalate unsafe work when there is an immediate risk to life, health, or property.
• Promote a strong safety culture among employees, workers, contractors, and visitors.
• Ensure compliance with applicable statutory safety requirements, construction safety regulations, and company EHS policies and procedures.
• Assist management in implementing continuous improvements in occupational health, safety, and environmental practices at the project site.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of construction site safety practices and EHS procedures.
• Good understanding of PPE, work-at-height safety, scaffolding safety, excavation safety, lifting operations, electrical safety, fire safety, and Permit-to-Work systems.
• Knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, JSA/JHA, incident investigation, and corrective/preventive actions.
• Ability to conduct effective toolbox talks, safety training, inductions, and awareness programs.
• Strong inspection, reporting, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with project teams, contractors, subcontractors, and workers.
• Strong observation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Good knowledge of applicable statutory EHS requirements and construction safety standards.

Education & Experience

• Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Fire & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a relevant engineering discipline.
• Relevant safety certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or equivalent will be an advantage.
• Relevant experience in construction site safety / EHS management is preferred.
• Experience in handling high-risk construction activities, contractor safety, inspections, incident reporting, and emergency preparedness will be an advantage.
• Proficiency in MS Office, safety documentation, reporting, and inspection tools is preferred.
