Job Description
The Quality Engineer manages shop-floor quality control, inspects incoming sheet metal, oversees weld and fit-up integrity, drives root-cause investigations for defects, and maintains compliance with quality management systems (like ISO 9001 or IATF 16949). [1, 2, 3]
Key Responsibilities
- In-Process & Final Inspection: Perform dimensional checks, visual inspections, bend/angle verifications, and first-article inspections (FAI) on sheet metal parts. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Weld & Fabrication Quality: Monitor welding quality, joint fit-up, deburring, surface finishing, and coating/painting standards. [1, 2, 3]
- Supplier Quality Management: Inspect incoming sheet metal coils/sheets, review material test certificates (MTC), and track vendor performance. [1, 2, 3]
- Root Cause & Non-Conformance: Handle non-conformance reports (NCR), lead root-cause analysis (using 5 Whys, Fishbone, or 8D), and execute Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA). [1, 2, 3]
- Calibration & Metrology: Ensure shop-floor measuring tools (vernier calipers, height gauges, micrometers, surface roughness testers) are regularly calibrated. [1]
- Documentation & Audits: Maintain Quality Assurance Plans (QAP), Inspection Test Plans (ITP), PPAP/APQP records, and support internal/external ISO audits. [1, 2, 3, 4]
