Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer

Responsibilities

1. Network Monitoring

• Continuously monitor servers, routers, switches, OLTs/ONTs, and applications using tools like Nagios, Zabbix, or SolarWinds
• Monitor GPON network performance, fiber link status, optical power levels, and subscriber connectivity
• Identify outages, alarms, or performance issues in real time

2. Incident Management

• Detect, log, and respond to network and GPON-related incidents
• Perform initial troubleshooting for fiber cuts, ONU/ONT registration issues, OLT alarms, and connectivity problems
• Escalate complex issues to higher-level engineers or field teams as required

3. Troubleshooting & Support

• Diagnose problems related to connectivity, hardware, software, and fiber infrastructure
• Troubleshoot GPON technologies including OLTs, ONTs/ONUs, splitters, VLANs, and optical signal issues
• Work with ISPs, vendors, field engineers, or internal teams to resolve issues quickly

4. System Maintenance

• Apply patches, updates, and upgrades to network devices, GPON equipment, and systems
• Perform routine health checks, preventive maintenance, and backup activities
• Ensure optimal performance and availability of fiber and network infrastructure

5. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain logs of incidents, resolutions, network changes, and system performance
• Document GPON topology, fiber routes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures
• Generate reports on uptime, downtime, alarms, and SLAs (Service Level Agreements)

6. Security Monitoring

• Monitor network traffic for unusual activity or potential security threats
• Ensure secure access and configuration compliance for network and GPON devices
• Coordinate with cybersecurity teams when needed

7. GPON Operations & Support

• Configure and manage GPON devices such as OLTs and ONTs/ONUs
• Support provisioning, activation, and troubleshooting of FTTH services
• Monitor bandwidth utilization, subscriber sessions, and service quality across GPON networks
• Coordinate with field teams for fiber restoration and customer connectivity issues
