Nursing Superintendent

Job Summary

• Accountability: Reports directly to the Head of the Institution, Chief Nursing Officer, or Medical Superintendent.
• Scope: Directs, coordinates, and evaluates nursing activities across all hospital wards, out-patient departments, and specialty units.
• Leadership: Leads deputy/assistant superintendents, ward supervisors, and nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities

1. Administration & Management

• Policy Implementation: Enforces hospital rules, nursing standards, and safety/infection control protocols.
• Budgeting & Resources: Prepares annual budget proposals for the nursing department and manages equipment and linen allocations.
• Staffing & Roster: Oversees master duty rosters, leave sanctions, transfers, and daily census reports to adjust manpower.
• Performance & Discipline: Conducts performance appraisals, writes confidential reports, and handles disciplinary actions.

2. Patient Care & Quality Control

• Supervisory Rounds: Conducts regular inspections of wards and departments to ensure quality care for serious patients.
• Complaint Investigation: Investigates patient or staff grievances and manages emergency situations.
• Liaison: Acts as a bridge between hospital management, medical staff, and the nursing department.

3. Staff Development & Education

• Training Programs: Plans and supports in-service education, orientation for new hires, and clinical skill updates.
• Counseling: Provides guidance, health monitoring, and welfare support for nursing personnel

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc. Nursing) or Master’s degree (M.Sc. Nursing / Healthcare Administration).
• Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license registered with the Indian Nursing Council or respective State Nursing Council.
• Experience: Extensive experience moving up from senior staff nurse, ward supervisor, or deputy/assistant nursing superintendent roles.
