Machining & Fabrication Manager (Aluminium Extrusions)

Machining Operations Management

▪   Plan and manage CNC/VMC machining operations: job scheduling, machine allocation, tool setting, and CNC program management

▪   Coordinate with Production Planning to receive machining orders and commit to delivery timelines based on machine capacity

▪   Ensure optimal machine utilisation (target >80%) by minimising idle time, setup time, and changeover time

▪   Oversee CNC program proving, first-article inspection approval, and series production release in coordination with QA

▪   Manage cutting tool inventory: tool life tracking, procurement lead time management, and tooling cost per unit control

Fabrication Operations Management

▪   Oversee fabrication bay operations: MIG/TIG welding, structural fitting, grinding, and surface finishing as per engineering drawings

▪   Review fabrication drawings and weld symbols with team before job commencement; resolve technical queries with design/engineering

▪   Monitor welder qualification records; ensure all critical welds are performed by certified welders as per procedure

▪   Enforce dimensional checking at each fabrication stage to catch deviations before reaching final inspection

Quality & First-Pass Yield

▪   Drive first-pass yield improvement by implementing error-proofing (Poka Yoke) at machining and fabrication stages

▪   Coordinate with QC Inspector for in-process and final inspection of machined and fabricated components

▪   Own NCR (Non-Conformance Report) closure for machining and fabrication related rejections; lead root cause analysis and CAPA

▪   Maintain departmental rejection log and present monthly quality trends in the operations review

Process Improvement & Lean

▪   Identify and implement cycle time reduction opportunities on CNC machines through cutting parameter optimisation and toolpath improvements

▪   Lead Kaizen events in the machining and fabrication bay to eliminate waste (waiting, rework, excess motion)

▪   Evaluate and recommend new tooling technologies, fixturing solutions, or equipment upgrades to Head – Production

Safety & 5S

▪   Ensure strict compliance with machining safety: machine guards, chip guards, coolant handling, and rotating part hazard controls

▪   Enforce fabrication safety: welding PPE (welding shields, gloves, aprons), fume extraction, fire watch for hot work

▪   Implement LOTO procedures for all maintenance activities on CNC machines and fabrication equipment

▪   Lead daily 5S audits in the machining and fabrication bay; maintain audit score above 80%

Team Development & Reporting

▪   Conduct daily pre-shift briefings: targets, quality alerts, safety observations, and housekeeping tasks

▪   Identify skill gaps in CNC programming, multi-axis machining, and advanced welding; coordinate training with HR

▪   Prepare and submit daily/weekly production MIS to Head – Production: output vs. plan, machine uptime, rejection summary
