JOB DESCRIPTION – TOOL ROOM INCHARGE
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for an experienced and execution-driven Tool Room Incharge to independently manage and develop the complete Tool Room function for our hand tool manufacturing operations.
The role will be responsible for die and tooling development, production planning, broach manufacturing, EDM and VMC operations, tool maintenance, team building, process improvement, and new tooling innovation projects.
The candidate must combine strong technical knowledge with planning, leadership, cost control, and project execution capabilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Tool Room Management & Planning
- Manage complete day-to-day operations of the Tool Room.
- Prepare weekly and monthly plans for new dies, broaches, fixtures, gauges, tooling, repairs, and development projects.
- Set priorities based on production requirements, breakdown urgency, NPD projects, and business requirements.
- Ensure all projects are completed as per committed timelines.
2. Die, Tooling & Broach Development
- Lead the design, development, manufacturing, correction, and maintenance of forging dies, trimming dies, punches, fixtures, and production tooling.
- Manage in-house manufacturing and development of broaches.
- Improve die life, broach life, tool life, accuracy, and overall tooling performance.
- Conduct root cause analysis for repeated die, broach, and tooling failures.
3. EDM, VMC & Machine Management
- Plan and control EDM, VMC, milling, grinding, wire-cut, and other Tool Room machining operations.
- Improve machine utilization, productivity, cycle time, and manpower efficiency.
- Ensure proper preventive maintenance and machine accuracy.
4. New Tooling & Innovation Projects
- Lead projects for new dies, tools, broaches, fixtures, automation, SPMs, and manufacturing process improvements.
- Develop innovative tooling solutions to improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost.
- Work on import substitution and in-house development of critical tooling.
- Identify new technologies and manufacturing methods that can strengthen Tool Room capabilities.
5. Production Support & Breakdown Control
- Ensure timely availability of dies, broaches, tools, fixtures, and gauges required for production.
- Minimize production downtime caused by tooling failures or delays.
- Establish preventive and predictive maintenance systems for critical dies and tooling.
- Maintain critical tooling spares and replacement plans.
6. Team Building & Development
- Build a technically strong and accountable Tool Room team.
- Define responsibilities and performance targets for engineers, programmers, supervisors, operators, and technicians.
- Develop skill matrices and training plans for Tool Room employees.
- Improve multi-skilling and reduce dependency on individual employees.
7. Cost Control & Productivity
- Monitor tooling cost per component and overall Tool Room operating costs.
- Reduce external job work through in-house capability development.
- Improve tool life, material utilization, machine utilization, and manpower productivity.
- Implement cost-saving and productivity improvement projects.
8. Systems, Documentation & Control
- Maintain Tool Room MIS, project trackers, machine utilization reports, tool history cards, drawings, programs, and preventive maintenance records.
- Establish proper tool identification, storage, issuance, and traceability systems.
- Implement 5S, visual management, standard work, and continuous improvement systems.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Making, Production Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
- 8–15 years of relevant experience in Tool Room operations, preferably in forging, automotive, hand tools, engineering, or high-volume manufacturing.
- Strong practical knowledge of die making, broach manufacturing, EDM, VMC, CNC machining, fixtures, gauges, and precision tooling.
- Experience in Tool Room planning, project management, machine utilization, and manpower management.
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, understand tolerances, tooling materials, heat treatment, machining processes, and manufacturing requirements.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and develop a high-performance technical team.
