Job Description

A marketing field office in the food industry acts as the regional, face-to-face link between a food brand (manufacturer/distributor) and its customers (retailers, food service operators, and consumers). These offices are responsible for executing national brand strategies at a local level to drive sales, increase brand awareness, and ensure product availability. Repsly +3

Core Roles in a Food Industry Field Office

  • Field Marketing Manager: Oversees regional marketing, leads local campaigns, manages the local budget, and collaborates with sales teams to meet regional targets.
  • Field Marketing Representative/Brand Ambassador: Conducts on-site demonstrations, product sampling, and in-store promotions to engage directly with consumers.
  • Trade Marketing Specialist: Manages relationships with retail partners, handles in-store merchandising, and secures better shelf placement.
  • Sales and Marketing Coordinator: Supports the field team with promotional materials, manages logistics for events, and handles local administrative tasks.
  • Data Analyst/Market Researcher: Collects field intelligence on consumer behavior, competitor pricing, and inventory levels to inform future strategies.

Primary Responsibilities

Field offices focus on tangible, on-the-ground activities rather than long-term strategic planning, which is typically handled at corporate headquarters.

1. Consumer Engagement and Experiential Marketing

  • Product Sampling and Demonstrations: Organizing in-store tastings or demos to drive immediate trial and purchase, especially for new products.
  • Event Marketing: Planning and executing presence at local food festivals, trade shows, farmer's markets, or community events.
  • Brand Activation: Utilizing "street teams" for sampling or marketing, and developing in-store experiences. Repsly +1

2. Retail Merchandising and Sales Support

  • Shelf Management: Ensuring products are stocked, properly displayed, and compliant with planograms.
  • Securing Shelf Space: Negotiating with retail store managers for better shelf positioning, end-cap displays, or increased inventory.
  • Promotional Execution: Setting up POS (point-of-sale) materials, banners, and flyers. Repsly +2

3. Market Intelligence and Relationship Management

  • Competitive Monitoring: Auditing competitors' activities, such as pricing changes, new products, and promotions in local stores.
  • Retailer Relations: Fostering relationships with local retailers and distributors to ensure loyalty and favorable product treatment.
  • Lead Generation: Identifying new potential customers (e.g., small local cafes, independent grocers) and passing leads to the sales team. Repsly +3

4. Operational Reporting

  • KPI Tracking: Monitoring sales volume, brand awareness metrics, and engagement rates.
  • Feedback Loop: Submitting weekly or monthly reports to head office regarding field findings, consumer feedback, and promotional success.

Key Skills Required

  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Ability to build rapport with store managers and engage consumers.
  • Product Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the brand's food products, ingredients, and USP (Unique Selling Proposition).
  • Creativity: Developing engaging, in-person experiences and displays.
  • Time Management & Flexibility: Managing multiple tasks and locations efficiently.
  • Digital Literacy: Using CRM software and digital reporting tools for tracking field activity. Repsly +1

Typical Performance Metrics (KPIs)

  • Sales Target Achievement: Meeting regional sales volume goals.
  • Lead Generation: Number of new retailers or accounts acquired.
