Job Description
The Resident Engineer (RE) shall be a full-time site-based representative responsible for monitoring, inspecting, validating and reporting on all construction activities to ensure the Works are executed in accordance with the Contract Documents, approved designs, project specifications, applicable codes, statutory requirements, permits and Good Industry Practice.
The RE shall act as the primary site quality and compliance representative, ensuring that materials, workmanship, testing and completed works meet the required standards and project objectives.
The RE shall be degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (M.Tech in Structures/Construction Management shall be considered an advantage) and shall have a minimum of five (8) years of experience on large-scale projects (greater than INR 100 Crore for C&S).
The RE shall have demonstrated experience in construction supervision and quality monitoring of Earthworks, Reinforced Concrete Structures, Steel Structures, Composite Structures and associated civil works.
The position shall be based at the Construction Site Office and shall require full-time site presence during project working hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and validate site activities through regular inspections, site walks and documented inspection reports supported with photographic records.
- Ensure compliance with Contract Documents, approved drawings, specifications, applicable regulations, permits, codes and Good Industry Standards.
- Liaise with the Design Team, Project Lead, General Contractor, Consultants, Vendors and other site stakeholders to facilitate effective project execution.
- Attend coordination meetings, progress meetings, benchmarking reviews, audits, quality reviews and construction planning discussions.
- Identify, document and report safety concerns, quality issues, non-conformances and risks that may impact project quality, cost, schedule or compliance.
- Review drawings, shop drawings, RFIs, material submissions, method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), technical submittals and construction documentation for compliance and discrepancies.
- Maintain up-to-date records of inspections, testing, approved documents, progress status, quality documentation and site photographs.
- Witness and verify construction activities, inspections, testing, sampling and quality assurance activities as required under the approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), including but not limited to:
- Review and witness approval of concrete mix designs, trial mixes, concrete material approvals and related laboratory test results.
- Witness reinforcement inspections including bar diameter, spacing, lap lengths, anchorage, cover blocks, embedment's, couplers and reinforcement placement prior to concreting.
- Witness formwork inspections, embedded item checks, pre-pour inspections and approval prior to concrete placement.
- Witness concrete pouring activities including slump tests, concrete temperature checks, cube sampling, curing arrangements and concrete quality control procedures.
- Verify concrete testing results, compressive strength results and compliance with approved specifications.
- Witness earthwork activities including excavation, filling, layer preparation, moisture conditioning and compaction activities.
- Witness field density tests, compaction tests and verification of achieved compaction ratios as per project specifications.
- Witness Plate Load Tests (PLT), soil testing, geotechnical verification and related acceptance criteria wherever applicable.
- Witness structural steel erection activities including member alignment, erection sequence, bolt installation, bolt tightening/torquing procedures, bolt tension verification and inspection of connections.
- Witness welding activities including welding procedure compliance, welder qualification verification, weld inspection, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Witness steel surface preparation, primer application, intermediate coat and final paint coating inspections including dry film thickness (DFT) measurements and coating quality checks.
- Verify waterproofing, protective coating, finishing works and other specialist activities as required by project specifications.
- Monitor construction progress, workmanship standards and completion status against approved drawings, specifications and project requirements.
- Raise and track Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), defect reports and punch-list items, and verify implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Verify that approved materials, testing certificates, inspection records and quality documentation are available prior to acceptance of completed works.
- Support project completion, handover activities, as-built documentation review, lessons learned reviews and post-completion assessments.
- Provide timely reports and recommendations to the Project Lead regarding site progress, quality performance, compliance status and project risks.

- Daily Site Diary including detailed activity records and photographs of the Works.
- Weekly Progress Report including time-stamped photographs.
- Inspection Reports, Inspection & Test Plan records and quality assurance documentation.
- Witness inspection records, test reports and material verification records.
- Concrete quality records including mix design approvals, pour records and test results.
- Earthwork and geotechnical testing records including compaction reports and PLT reports.
- Structural steel inspection records including bolting, welding and coating inspection reports.
- NCRs, defect reports and punch-list tracking records.
- Meeting and conference reports.
- Progress, quality and compliance updates to the Project Lead.
- Any other reports, records and documentation required under the Contract.
The Resident Engineer shall ensure successful execution of the Works through proactive site monitoring, witness inspections, quality assurance verification, compliance monitoring and effective coordination with all project stakeholders.
