Job Description

Machine Setup & Operation

•      Set up CNC turning centres and machining centres for new jobs — including tool selection, tool offsets, fixture clamping, and material loading.

•      Load, verify, and execute CNC programs (G-code / M-code) as per the job card and engineering drawing.

•      Monitor machine performance during production runs — adjusting feed rates, spindle speeds, and tool offsets as required.

•      Conduct first-piece inspection before committing to full production runs, ensuring dimensional conformance.

•      Perform scheduled changeovers between jobs with minimal downtime, following setup sheets and standard operating procedures.

Quality & Inspection

•      Carry out in-process and final inspection of machined components using precision instruments — vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and surface comparators.

•      Read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T callouts, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.

•      Identify non-conforming parts, tag them appropriately, and report deviations to the supervisor immediately.

•      Maintain first-off and last-off inspection records as per ISO 9001:2015 quality documentation requirements.

Machine Maintenance & Housekeeping

•      Carry out basic preventive maintenance tasks — lubrication, coolant level checks, chip clearance, and filter cleaning — as per the machine maintenance schedule.

•      Report abnormal machine sounds, vibrations, or performance degradation to the maintenance team promptly.

•      Maintain a clean and organised work area around the machine at all times, adhering to 5S standards.

•      Handle cutting tools, inserts, and fixtures responsibly — minimising breakage, wear, and wastage.

Documentation & Compliance

•      Maintain accurate production logs — job cards, shift output records, and tool change logs — as required.

•      Follow all shop-floor safety protocols including PPE usage, machine guarding, and material handling procedures.

•      Participate in daily shift briefings and communicate any quality or production issues to the team leader.

•      Perform any other duties assigned by the Production Supervisor or Plant Manager from time to time.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education

•      ITI in Machinist / Turner / Fitter from a recognised institution — preferred.

•      Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised polytechnic — also acceptable.

•      Formal apprenticeship training from a recognised manufacturing company is an added advantage.

Experience

2–5 years of hands-on experience operating CNC turning centres or machining centres in a production environment.
