Gold Appraiser

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and trustworthy Gold Appraiser to evaluate gold jewellery brought in by customers, assess its purity and net weight, calculate its value based on prevailing gold rates, and facilitate gold purchase transactions. The ideal candidate should have practical knowledge of gold testing, jewellery valuation, customer handling and transaction documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine and evaluate gold jewellery and other eligible gold items presented by customers for sale.
• Test gold purity using appropriate testing methods and equipment, such as a karat meter and other approved testing techniques.
• Accurately assess gold weight, purity, net gold content and applicable deductions for stones or other non-gold components.
• Calculate the purchase value of gold based on prevailing market rates and company pricing policies.
• Explain the valuation process, purity assessment and purchase price transparently to customers.
• Negotiate purchase transactions professionally within the company's approved pricing guidelines.
• Verify customer identity and complete KYC documentation as per company policy and applicable requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of gold purchases, customer details, valuation results and transaction documents.
• Ensure safe handling, storage and transfer of purchased gold and related assets.
• Follow company procedures for fraud prevention, counterfeit detection, risk management and transaction verification.
• Maintain the appraisal equipment and ensure accurate and reliable testing.
• Support branch operations and contribute to achieving gold purchase targets, where applicable.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Previous experience in gold appraisal, jewellery valuation, gold buying or a related field is preferred.
• Knowledge of gold purity, karat classification, gold testing methods, weighing procedures and valuation.
• Familiarity with gold-testing equipment and jewellery identification.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
• Good communication and customer-handling skills.
• High standards of honesty, integrity, confidentiality and professional conduct.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
• Basic computer knowledge for transaction entry and documentation.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Candidates with experience working in jewellery shops, gold-buying businesses, gold loan companies or gold-testing centres will be preferred.
• Candidates with practical experience in assessing 18K, 20K, 22K and 24K gold will be an advantage.
• Ability to work in a customer-facing environment and handle valuable items responsibly.
