Quality Engineer

Key Responsibilities

· Overall Quality Oversight: Responsible for the overall product quality of fabrications across the entire lifecycle, including incoming raw materials, in-process stage manufacturing, and final pre-dispatch inspections.

· Incoming Raw Material Inspection: Verify incoming raw materials (plates, structural steel, pipes, tubes), including cross-verifying Mill Test Certificates (MTC), NABL-accredited laboratory test reports, heat numbers, and customer-specific metallurgical requirements.

· Supplier Quality Assurance & Onsite Audits: Verify incoming bought-out components and conduct onsite supplier quality reviews and vendor audits for problem resolution and defect prevention as needed.

· Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) Development: Develop, establish, and execute component-specific Quality Assurance Plans (QAP) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITP) for all jobs, ensuring strict process and drawing compliance.

· Documented Stage Inspections: Conduct and maintain documented quality inspections of fabricated components, fit-ups, weldments, and assemblies across every production stage.

· NDT & Customer QAP Coordination: Track customer-specific QAP requirements and coordinate with accredited 3rd-party inspection (TPI) agencies for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT: DPT, MPT, UT, RT) and certified test documentation.

· ISO 9001:2015 Compliance: Ensure comprehensive adherence to ISO 9001:2015 quality management standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and audit readiness across manufacturing operations.

· Drawing Interpretation & Precision Metrology: Interpret engineering blueprints, fabrication drawings, and GD&T specifications; verify dimensions using Measuring Tape, vernier calipers, micrometers, steel rules, and precision gauges.

· Welding Quality & Workmanship Verification: Inspect weld preparation, fit-up gaps, bevels, visual weld quality, and adherence to approved WPS/PQR and applicable welding standards.

· Customer & Third-Party Inspection Hosting: Coordinate and lead customer inspection visits, client QA teams, and third-party inspection (TPI) agencies through stage and final sign-offs.

· CAPA & Non-Conformance Management: Identify shop floor quality deviations, issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), and drive Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) with production to minimize scrap and rework.

· Quality Documentation & Dispatch Clearance: Prepare and maintain inspection reports, quality dossiers, and dispatch clearance certificates to release finished products.

Required Skills & Qualifications

· Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in heavy engineering, metal fabrication, or pressure vessel quality control.

· Sound knowledge of Quality Assurance Plans (QAP), Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), and ISO 9001:2015 standard procedures.

· Practical expertise in raw material verification (plates, pipes, structural shapes), Mill TCs, and NABL test report cross-checking.

· Strong proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, welding symbols, and dimensional tolerance specifications.

· Hands-on experience using measuring tools: vernier calipers, micrometers, bevel gauges, and precision metrology instruments.

· Familiarity with welding inspection, welding standards, and coordinating NDT examinations (DPT, MPT, UT, RT).

· Proven track record in coordinating with external third-party inspection (TPI) agencies and handling direct customer audits.

· Proficiency in MS Excel for quality dossiers, stage inspection logging, and CAPA / NCR tracking.

· Fluent in Tamil and English (written & verbal communication); Hindi proficiency is an added advantage.

Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate should be passionate, hands-on, confident in dealing with customer inspection teams & TPI agencies, capable of drafting QAPs and managing quality dossiers, and comfortable coordinating with shop floor production teams to resolve quality deviations.
