Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Accounts Manager to manage the complete finance and accounting functions of a ship repair and marine engineering company.
The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day accounting, project/job costing, vessel-wise expenses, customer billing, subcontractor and supplier accounts, receivables, payables, GST/TDS compliance, cash-flow management and MIS reporting.
Experience in ship repair, marine services, shipyards, offshore services or engineering companies will be preferred.
- Key ResponsibilitiesManage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate accounting entries.
- Maintain vessel-wise / project-wise accounts and job costing.
- Track revenue and expenses for each ship repair project.
- Verify material, spare parts, labour, subcontractor and service-related costs against individual jobs.
- Prepare and monitor customer invoices based on work orders, quotations and completed repair jobs.
- Follow up on customer receivables and maintain ageing reports.
- Verify and process supplier and subcontractor invoices.
- Reconcile customer, vendor, bank and general ledger accounts.
- Monitor advances received from customers and advances paid to vendors/subcontractors.
- Prepare job-wise profitability reports and identify cost overruns.
- Monitor project budgets versus actual expenses.
- Coordinate with the Operations, Technical, Procurement and Project teams regarding billing and costs.
- Ensure all completed repair works are billed promptly.
- Manage cash flow, payment schedules and working-capital requirements.
- Prepare monthly MIS and financial reports for management.
- Supervise the accounts team and review their work.
- Coordinate with statutory auditors, tax consultants, banks and other financial institutions.
- Ensure timely GST, TDS, Income Tax and other applicable statutory compliances.
- Maintain proper documentation and records for audits.
- Ship Repair–Specific Accounting ResponsibilitiesMaintain vessel-wise job files and cost sheets.
- Account for:
- Marine spare parts and consumables
- Welding and fabrication materials
- Electrical and mechanical components
- Subcontractor charges
- Labour and manpower costs
- Crane, scaffolding and equipment hire
- Dock/yard-related expenses
- Transportation and logistics
- Port and marine service charges
- Travel and vessel attendance expenses
- Track material issued and consumed for each repair project.
- Reconcile purchase orders, material receipts, invoices and job consumption.
- Monitor variation orders and additional repair works for proper customer billing.
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure all billable costs are captured.
- Review project profitability before and after completion.
- Monitor customer credit limits and payment terms.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or related field.
- M.Com / CA Inter / CMA qualification will be an advantage.
- 5–8 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience in ship repair, marine engineering, shipyard, offshore, engineering or industrial project companies preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GST, TDS and Indian accounting standards/practices.
- Good knowledge of Tally / ERP and MS Excel.
- Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, receivables and payables.
- Excellent reconciliation and analytical skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage a team and work independently.
