Staff Nurse

1 Maintains established departmental policies and procedures,

objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection

control standards.

2 Writes initial nursing histories, assessment & re

assessment of patients’ conditions and develops individual care plans for

patients assigned to the unit.

3 Able to formulate Nursing Care plan

4 Monitor patients’

vitals and report adverse reactions to medications in a timely manner

5 Collaborate on

discharge planning with the healthcare team

6 Answer questions

and educate patients and their families on surgical procedures and

post-surgery care

7 Maintain and

update patient files, medical charts, and health records

8 Adhere to best

nursing practices, standards, and protocols.

9 Administers and controls medications.

10 Functions in IP providing patient care, which includes

daily assessment, co-coordinating care with other disciplines, managing

nursing problems and preparing patient for home care.

11 Maintain and ensures the patient’s case sheet is intact.

12 Assists attending physicians and aids patients and families

as needed in times of stress or crisis.

13Assists physician during procedure,

monitors and continues care for patient after procedures and assist in

emergencies occurring prior / post or during the procedure

14 Ensure safe transportation of the patient to diagnostic

procedure / other wards or units.

15 Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment

for patient/families in accordance with hospital standards.

16 Intimates abnormalities of any investigation reports to the

Nurse Manager/ Charge Nurse.

17 Inspects the assigned area daily for compliance with

policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action

when violations occur.

18 Co-operates with other

personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee

relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies.

19 Assists with patient

discharge planning.

20 Carries the doctors’

order without any delay i.e. lab investigation, medications and transfusion

etc.

21 Monitor early warning

signs in deteriorating patients

22 Alert Medical emergency

team

23 Shall perform

any other work as assigned by the Charge nurse
