Senior Design Engineer / Lead Design Engineer – Mechanical

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

  • Lead and execute 3D modelling and 2D detailing activities using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
  • Develop and review engineering designs based on concept sketches, layouts, technical specifications, and client requirements.
  • Review and approve design models, manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings, BOMs, and engineering deliverables in compliance with applicable engineering standards, project specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure design accuracy, constructability, manufacturability, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness of equipment and systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations, design validations, and technical evaluations as required.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership for projects in at least one of the following domains:
  • Steel Plant Equipment
  • Heavy Equipment / Structural Design
  • Boilers
  • Power Plant Equipment
  • Process Plant Equipment
  • Material Handling Systems
  • Mining Machinery
  • Mineral Processing Plants
  • Special Purpose Machines (SPM)
  • Lead design planning activities and manage engineering priorities to achieve project schedules and milestones.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, HAZOP studies (where applicable), and value engineering initiatives.
  • Interface directly with customers, consultants, and project stakeholders during review meetings and technical discussions.
  • Resolve complex technical issues and provide practical engineering solutions.

Checker & Quality Assurance Responsibilities

  • Perform independent checking and approval of engineering drawings, 3D models, assemblies, BOMs, calculations, and fabrication documents.
  • Verify compliance with project specifications, design standards, customer requirements, and applicable international codes.
  • Ensure proper implementation of GD&T, limits & fits, welding symbols, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Review assembly interfaces, fit-up conditions, clearances, serviceability, and maintainability aspects.
  • Identify design inconsistencies, clashes, omissions, and manufacturability concerns before release.
  • Ensure drawing quality, completeness, revision control, and document consistency across project deliverables.
  • Maintain high standards of checking accuracy while adhering to project schedules and quality objectives.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for design-related issues identified during manufacturing, installation, or commissioning.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

  • Guide, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level engineers, designers, and checkers.
  • Review team deliverables and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and monitor progress to ensure timely project execution.
  • Foster a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate with manufacturing, procurement, quality, and site teams to support fabrication and installation activities.
  • Provide technical support during manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and commissioning phases.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design methodologies, engineering standards, workflows, and best practices.



Required Skill Set

Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years of core engineering design experience in any one or more of the following domains:
  • Steel Plant Equipment
  • Heavy Equipment / Structural Design
  • Boilers
  • Power Plant Equipment
  • Process Plant Equipment
  • Material Handling Systems
  • Mining Machinery
  • Mineral Processing Plants
  • Special Purpose Machines (SPM)

Technical Competencies

  • Strong expertise in creating, reviewing, and approving complex 3D models and 2D manufacturing/fabrication drawings.
  • Excellent capability to interpret and develop designs from concept sketches, layouts, engineering calculations, and client specifications.
  • Strong application of mechanical and structural engineering principles in equipment and system design.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication practices, machining, welding, and assembly techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T, limits & fits, welding symbols, tolerance stack-up analysis, and relevant international standards/codes.
  • Strong understanding of BOM management, document control, engineering change management, and design release processes.
  • Experience in design checking, technical approvals, and quality assurance processes.

  • Proven ability to lead engineering teams and manage technical deliverables.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify design risks, potential failures, and manufacturability issues during review stages.

Mandatory Software Experience

  • Autodesk Inventor – Minimum 4+ years
  • SolidWorks – Minimum 4+ years
  • AutoCAD – Minimum 5+ years

Preferred

  • Experience with Plant Layout Design and Equipment Integration.
  • Familiarity with ERP/PDM/PLM systems.
  • Exposure to FEA tools and engineering calculations software.
  • Experience working with global engineering standards and international clients.
