Assistant Manager - Body in White Process Engineering

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

• Manufacturing Feasibility: Analyze BIW product designs (drawings and CAD models) to ensure they can be successfully stamped, welded, and assembled without defects
• Assembly Sequencing: Determine the optimal build sequence (e.g., underbody → side panels → roof) to construct the vehicle shell
• Joining Method Selection: Decide on the appropriate joining technologies, such as resistance spot welding, laser welding, riveting, clinching, or structural adhesives
• Tooling & Equipment Definition: Specify and size the necessary jigs, fixtures, clamps, and robotic end-effectors, while evaluating vendor quotes for procurement
• Cycle Time Analysis: Calculate takt time (the rate of production needed to meet market demand) and perform line balancing to ensure every workstation operates within the target time
• Documentation: Prepare standardized manufacturing documents like Process Flow Diagrams (PFDD), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Control Plans
• Quality & Geometry Tuning: Analyze dimensional accuracy using Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) data to adjust fixtures and minimize tolerance stack-ups on the assembly line
• Lean Manufacturing: Continuously optimize operational processes to reduce scrap, streamline assembly, and minimize cycle times
