Position: Interior Designer
Department: Design & Projects
Location: Bhubaneswar, Odisha
Reports To: Design Head / Project Manager / Management
Job Summary:
We are looking for a creative, technically strong, and detail-oriented Interior Designer to join our team. The candidate will be responsible for taking residential interior projects from client requirement to design development, technical drawings, material selection, BOQ support, and site coordination.
This role requires both creativity and practical execution knowledge. We are not looking for someone who only makes attractive 3D designs—the designer must understand how the design will actually be executed on site.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Client Understanding & Design Development
* Meet clients and understand their lifestyle, requirements, budget, and design preferences.
* Prepare space planning and furniture layouts.
* Develop concept designs, mood boards, and design presentations.
* Prepare 2D layouts and 3D visualizations.
* Make revisions based on approved client feedback.
* Ensure designs are practical, functional, and aligned with the project budget.
2. Technical Drawings:
Prepare accurate drawings including:
* Furniture and layout plans
* Civil modification drawings
* Electrical and lighting layouts
* Plumbing layouts where required
* False ceiling drawings
* Flooring and tile layouts
* Wall elevations
* Furniture working drawings
* Kitchen and wardrobe details
* Loose furniture details
* Sections and detailed construction drawings
3. Material & Specification Selection:
* Select appropriate materials, finishes, laminates, hardware, lighting, sanitary fittings, and furnishings.
* Prepare material specifications and finish schedules.
* Coordinate with vendors for samples and product information.
* Ensure selected materials meet the required quality and budget.
4. BOQ & Cost Coordination:
* Assist in preparing project BOQs and estimates.
* Coordinate with the estimation/procurement team.
* Identify design changes that may increase project cost.
* Avoid design errors that cause unnecessary rework or material wastage.
5. Site Coordination:
* Visit project sites as required.
* Brief site engineers, supervisors, carpenters, electricians, and vendors.
* Ensure execution matches approved drawings.
* Resolve technical and design-related site issues.
* Coordinate design changes with the concerned team.
* Conduct regular quality and progress checks.
6. Documentation:
* Maintain proper records of drawings and revisions.
* Ensure only the latest approved drawing is issued for execution.
* Maintain material selections and client approvals.
* Prepare and maintain design-related project documentation.
Mandatory Skills:
* Strong knowledge of AutoCAD
* Proficiency in SketchUp, 3ds Max, V-Ray/Enscape, or equivalent 3D software
* Knowledge of Photoshop/Canva is preferred.
* Good understanding of interior materials and finishes.
* Strong knowledge of modular and custom furniture.
* Understanding of electrical, plumbing, civil, false ceiling, and carpentry coordination.
* Ability to prepare accurate working drawings.
* Ability to read and understand site dimensions.
* Good communication and presentation skills.
* Strong attention to detail.
Experience: 2–5 years preferred
Candidates with strong practical residential interior project experience will be preferred.
Performance Expectations / KPIs:
The Interior Designer will be evaluated based on:
* Accuracy of drawings
* Number of design errors identified on site
* Timely completion of design deliverables
* Client approval turnaround time
* Design quality and client satisfaction
* Reduction in rework caused by design mistakes
* Budget adherence
* Site coordination and problem-solving ability
* Proper documentation and revision control
