Location: Maiya Multispeciality Hospital LLP
Position SummaryThe Staff Nurse is responsible for providing safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to patients while ensuring compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. The Staff Nurse works collaboratively with consultants and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver quality patient care and promote patient safety.
- Key Responsibilities1. Patient CareAssess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients.
- Monitor and record patients' vital signs and clinical condition.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, injections, blood products, and treatments as prescribed.
- Assist consultants during patient examinations, procedures, and rounds.
- Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition.
- Maintain accurate intake/output records and nursing observations.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care.
- Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
- 2. Clinical ProceduresPerform nursing procedures according to hospital protocols.
- Maintain IV lines, urinary catheters, drains, and other medical devices.
- Assist in emergency and resuscitation procedures.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Ensure specimen collection, labeling, and timely transportation to the laboratory.
- 3. DocumentationMaintain complete and accurate nursing records in the Hospital Information System (HIS) or patient case sheet.
- Record medication administration accurately.
- Document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
- Complete all required forms and reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- 4. Infection Prevention & Patient SafetyFollow standard precautions and infection control practices.
- Ensure proper hand hygiene and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Segregate biomedical waste according to hospital policy.
- Report incidents, medication errors, needle-stick injuries, and near misses immediately.
- Participate in patient safety initiatives and quality improvement activities.
- 5. Medication ManagementAdminister medications safely following the "Right Patient, Right Drug, Right Dose, Right Route, Right Time, Right Documentation, Right Reason, Right Response, Right Education, and Right to Refuse" principles.
- Verify medication orders before administration.
- Monitor and document adverse drug reactions.
- Maintain narcotic and high-alert medication records as per policy.
- 6. Equipment ManagementEnsure availability and readiness of emergency equipment.
- Check crash cart, oxygen cylinders, suction apparatus, and monitors at the beginning of each shift.
- Report equipment malfunction promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper storage of nursing equipment.
- 7. Communication & CoordinationCoordinate effectively with consultants, nursing staff, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, physiotherapy, dietetics, and other departments.
- Participate in ward rounds and interdisciplinary discussions.
- Ensure proper shift handover using the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) communication method.
- Maintain professional communication with patients, relatives, and colleagues.
- 8. Emergency ResponsibilitiesRespond immediately to medical emergencies and Code Blue situations.
- Perform Basic Life Support (BLS) and assist in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as trained.
- Prepare emergency medications and equipment.
- Assist in patient transfer to ICU, OT, or higher centers when required.
- 9. Quality & NABH ComplianceFollow NABH standards and hospital policies.
- Participate in departmental meetings, audits, and quality improvement activities.
- Attend mandatory training programs, CMEs, and nursing education sessions.
- Support implementation of quality indicators and patient safety goals.
- QualificationsGNM / B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
- Valid State Nursing Council Registration.
- BLS certification is mandatory; ACLS certification is desirable.
- ExperienceFreshers or candidates with 1–3 years of hospital experience.
- Experience in ICU, OT, Emergency, Labour Room, or Ward is preferred.

- Report incidents, safety concerns, and equipment failures promptly.
- Working ConditionsRotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Work in Ward, ICU, Operation Theatre, Labour Room, Emergency, or other assigned clinical areas.
- Exposure to infectious diseases, emergency situations, and physically demanding tasks while following appropriate safety precautions.
