ROLE OVERVIEW

The Quality Inspector is responsible for conducting in-process and final inspection of aerospace and defence machined components to ensure full conformity with engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, customer specifications, and AS9100 Rev D quality standards.

The role plays a critical part in ensuring product quality, traceability, FOD compliance, audit readiness, and zero-defect dispatch within a precision manufacturing environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Inspection & Quality Verification

•    Perform in-process inspection of machined components at defined stages of manufacturing to ensure dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and process conformity

•    Conduct final inspection of finished components prior to dispatch in accordance with customer drawings, specifications, and quality requirements

•    Interpret and inspect components as per GD&T requirements in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards including positional tolerance, profile, flatness, perpendicularity, concentricity, runout, and datum reference structures

•    Verify that inspection activities are performed only against latest approved engineering drawings, specifications, route cards, and revision-controlled documents

•    Ensure product safety, quality integrity, and compliance requirements are maintained during all inspection and release activities

•    Measuring Instruments & Metrology

•    Use precision measuring instruments including:

•    Vernier calipers, micrometers, and height gauges

•    Bore gauges, depth gauges, and dial indicators

•    Surface roughness testers

•    Optical comparators and profile projectors

•    Ensure all measuring instruments and gauges are within valid calibration status prior to use

•    Maintain proper handling, storage, and control of measuring instruments as per quality standards

•    Non-Conformance & Quality Control

•    Identify, segregate, and tag non-conforming components as per QMS requirements

•    Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation

•    Coordinate with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams for timely resolution of dimensional and process-related quality issues

•    Support containment activities to prevent escape of non-conforming products to customers

•    Traceability, Documentation & Aerospace Compliance

•    Verify material traceability including batch numbers, heat numbers, serial numbers, and Material Test Certificates (MTCs) in line with aerospace and defence requirements

•    Prepare and maintain accurate inspection documentation including:

•    In-process inspection reports

•    Final inspection reports

•    Rejection and NCR records

•    Traceability and inspection status records

•    Maintain accountability and control of inspection stamps, inspection records, and status identification systems

•    FOD, Safety & Audit Readiness

•    Ensure strict adherence to Foreign Object Debris / Damage (FOD) prevention practices including inspection area cleanliness, component protection, tool accountability, and contamination prevention

•    Support implementation of counterfeit parts prevention controls through verification of certification documents, traceability records, and identification markings

•    Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready inspection areas at all times following 5S and aerospace quality standards

•    Participate in internal audits, customer audits, and quality reviews by providing objective evidence and inspection documentation

•    Adhere to all Quality Management System (QMS), document control, revision control, safety, and company procedures

•    Adhere to all document control and revision control procedures as per the QMS

TECHNICAL SKILLS

•    strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T as per ASME Y14.5

•    Hands-on experience with precision measuring instruments and metrology practices

•    Familiarity with AS9100 Rev D Quality Management System requirements

•    Familiarity with aerospace inspection documentation and traceability requirements

•    Basic understanding of NCR, CAPA, and quality documentation processes

•    Familiarity with surface finish measurement and roughness parameters

•    Awareness of FOD prevention, counterfeit parts control, and aerospace quality culture    

•    Diploma / ITI / BE in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification

EXPERIENCE& QUALIFICATION

•    2-6 years of hands-on experience in quality inspection within aerospace, defence, or precision manufacturing environment

•    Demonstrated experience in use of precision measurement instruments in a production inspection role

•    Diploma / ITI / BE in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification

 

PREFERRED

•    Prior experience in aerospace component inspection with exposure to customer-specific quality requirements

•    Familiarity with CMM inspection and report generation

•    Exposure to AS9100 internal audits or customer quality audits

•    Knowledge of 5S, FOD awareness programmes, and quality culture initiatives

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIS)

•    Inspection accuracy and first-time right rate

•    NCR closure timeliness and quality of documentation

•    Instrument calibration compliance and control

•    Zero escape of non-conforming parts to customer

•    Audit readiness and inspection record availability
