Job Description: Lubricants & Vehicle Care Technician

Position Title: Technician – Lubricants & Vehicle Care

Location: Bangalore, Karnataka

Reports To: Shift Manager / Site Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time


Job Purpose

The Lubricants & Vehicle Care Technician is responsible for conducting vehicle health checks, performing engine oil and coolant replacement services, recommending suitable Shell lubricants, and delivering a safe, professional, and customer-focused service experience. The role focuses on maintaining vehicle performance through preventive maintenance services while contributing to lubricant sales and customer retention.


Key Responsibilities


Vehicle Inspection & Health Checks

  • Perform under-bonnet inspections for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
  • Check engine oil levels and condition.
  • Inspect coolant levels and condition.
  • Check brake fluid, battery terminals, and other visible fluid levels where applicable.
  • Identify maintenance requirements and advise customers accordingly.
  • Explain findings and recommendations clearly to customers.


Lubricant Services

  • Perform engine oil changes for two-wheelers and four-wheelers as per standard operating procedures.
  • Drain used oil safely and refill with the correct grade and quantity of Shell lubricant.
  • Replace oil filters where applicable.
  • Ensure proper disposal of used oil and waste materials in compliance with environmental standards.
  • Maintain service quality and prevent contamination during oil changes.


Coolant Services

  • Perform coolant drain, flush, and replacement services as per vehicle requirements.
  • Inspect cooling system components for visible leaks or abnormalities.
  • Recommend suitable Shell coolant products.


Product Recommendation & Sales

  • Recommend appropriate Shell lubricants and vehicle care products based on vehicle type and manufacturer specifications.
  • Explain product benefits and maintenance intervals to customers.
  • Promote premium Shell lubricant products and service packages.
  • Achieve lubricant sales and service targets.


Customer Service

  • Greet customers professionally and build rapport.
  • Educate customers on vehicle maintenance best practices.
  • Address customer queries regarding lubricants, coolant, and vehicle servicing.
  • Ensure a positive and trustworthy customer experience.


Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to Shell HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) standards.
  • Use prescribed PPE while performing vehicle maintenance activities.
  • Follow safe handling and disposal procedures for used oils, filters, and coolants.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area.


Workshop & Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintain cleanliness of service bays and equipment.
  • Ensure tools and service equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Report equipment defects promptly.
  • Monitor stock levels of lubricants, coolants, filters, and consumables.


Teamwork & Administration

  • Coordinate with cashiers and site staff to ensure smooth customer service.
  • Maintain accurate service records and inventory usage.
  • Participate in training programs and technical skill development initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Essential: SSLC / PUC / ITI or equivalent qualification.
  • Basic knowledge of automotive systems and vehicle maintenance


Preferred

  • ITI in Motor Vehicle Mechanic (MVM), Diesel Mechanic, Automobile Technician, or related trade.
  • Experience in automotive workshops, quick lube centers, service stations, or fuel retail outlets.
  • Knowledge of lubricants, oil grades, and preventive vehicle maintenance.
