Job Description
Role Summary
We are looking for a CAD designer who can turn approved kitchen designs and site measurements into accurate production drawings, cut lists and nesting layouts, so that the factory can build right the first time with minimum material wastage.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cabinet designs and production drawings for base units, wall units, tall units, lofts, corner units, drawers and shutters.
- Convert site measurements and approved layouts into accurate kitchen plans, elevations and sections (site and layout mapping).
- Map hardware, fittings, laminates, edge banding and finishes to each cabinet and panel, and prepare accurate BOMs and cut lists.
- Prepare panel nesting layouts for CNC routers and panel saws, optimising sheet usage, respecting grain direction and keeping wastage low.
- Generate and verify machine-ready files (DXF / NC code / CAM output) and coordinate with CNC and production operators.
- Check designs for manufacturability and flag clashes, tolerance issues and hardware conflicts before release to production.
- Coordinate with interior designers, sales, store and production teams, and revise drawings quickly when changes come in.
- Maintain organised drawing files with version control and consistent naming, and keep standard cabinet libraries updated.
- Support the factory floor and site team with drawing clarifications, and learn from QC and installation feedback to improve designs.
Requirements
- 4–5 years of experience in kitchen cabinet or modular furniture design, with strong knowledge of carcass construction, joinery and standard hardware (hinges, channels, lift-ups, handles).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and at least one cabinet or furniture design software such as Pytha, Polyboard, Cabinet Vision, imos or similar.
- Hands-on experience with nesting or cutting-optimisation software (for example Cut Rite, OptiNest, Biesse, Homag or similar).
- Good understanding of panel materials: plywood, MDF, HDHMR, laminates, acrylic and edge banding.
- Strong accuracy, attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.
Good to Have
- SketchUp or 3D visualisation skills.
- Experience generating CNC programs and working directly with CNC router operators.
- Basic knowledge of costing and material estimation.
