Job Description: Production Manager / Head - Cosmetics and Pharma

About the Role : A contract manufacturer of cosmetic and medicated products with over 45 years of experience in cosmetics and dermatology is looking for a Production Manager / Head. The manufacturing unit is GMP, GLP, and ISO 9001:2015 certified, manufacturing a wide range of products including dusting powders, talcum powders, shampoo, conditioner, cream, gel, lotions, oil, soaps, sunscreen, serums, and more.

The selected candidate will lead and oversee the complete production operations of both the Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic manufacturing plants by ensuring products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality and regulatory standards. The Production Head will be responsible for production planning, manpower management, process optimization, capacity utilization, and achieving production targets through effective leadership of Production Supervisors and cross-functional coordination.


  • Key Responsibilities :
  • 1. Production Operations Management: Lead and oversee daily production activities for both Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic manufacturing plants.
  • Ensure production schedules are executed efficiently while meeting quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
  • Allocate resources, manpower, and equipment to maximize productivity and plant utilization.
  • Monitor production output, efficiency, and adherence to production plans.
  • 2. Leadership & Team ManagementLead: mentor, and develop Production Supervisors and production teams across both plants.
  • Define production targets and monitor team performance through regular reviews.
  • Build a culture of accountability, discipline, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure adequate manpower planning and succession planning for production functions.
  • 3. Production Planning & Coordination: Coordinate with PPC, Stores, Purchase, QA, QC, Warehouse, Maintenance, and Dispatch to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Review daily production plans and prioritize manufacturing based on business requirements.
  • Ensure timely availability of raw materials, packing materials, machinery, and manpower.
  • 4. Process Improvement & Productivity Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce manufacturing cycle time, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor production KPIs and drive corrective actions for performance improvement.
  • 5. Quality & Compliance Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with GMP, SOPs, Batch Manufacturing Records (BMR), and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support QA and QC in investigations related to deviations, non-conformances, and CAPA implementation.
  • Ensure production documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Prepare both plants for customer audits and future WHO-GMP certification.
  • 6. Operational Excellence Monitor Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), production efficiency, and manufacturing losses.
  • Reduce production downtime through effective coordination with Engineering and Maintenance teams.
  • Minimize product rejections, rework, wastage, and process deviations.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance manufacturing performance.
  • 7. Safety & Compliance Ensure adherence to EHS, GMP, and workplace safety practices across both plants.
  • Promote safe handling of materials, equipment, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure production personnel comply with hygiene and safety requirements.
  • 8. Reporting & Performance MonitoringReview daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
  • Monitor production KPIs, capacity utilization, manpower efficiency, and manufacturing costs.
  • Present operational performance and improvement initiatives to senior management.


  • Required Qualification & ExperienceEducation: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 10–15 years of production experience in Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, FMCG, or regulated manufacturing industries.
  • Leadership Experience: Minimum 5 years in a production leadership role managing multiple production lines or manufacturing units.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturing processes.
  • Standards: Experience with GMP, WHO-GMP, ISO standards, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Planning & Continuous Improvement: Knowledge of production planning, capacity management, batch manufacturing, process optimization, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, people management, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Tools: Proficiency in ERP systems, MS Office, and manufacturing reporting tools
