Principal Software Engineer

Overview

Atlassian's Connector Platform organization powers how third-party data and applications connect into our products. We're looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help lead the team that owns the front door for all third-party traffic entering the platform: request admission, authentication, connector lifecycle, and the developer SDK that takes a third-party integration from spec to production. You'll help drive down the time it takes to bring a new integration to production, while raising the bar on reliability and security for a system that sits on the public edge of our platform.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Set technical direction across a system spanning API gateway, developer SDK/tooling, authentication, and integration lifecycle management.

• Own architecture decisions for a declarative SDK and compiler/codegen pipeline that lets partners build integrations with less custom code.

• Drive design of a common gateway for authentication and request admission across all third-party integrations, decoupling platform scaling from product release cycles.

• Partner with adjacent engineering teams to keep shared identity and tenancy contracts stable as usage grows.

• Mentor engineers across multiple projects and raise the bar on architecture and code review.

• Represent your team in cross-organization architecture and technical tradeoff discussions.

Qualifications

Your background:

• 10+ years hands-on software engineering experience, with end-to-end ownership through design, build, and operate for platform or infrastructure systems.

• Experience designing SDKs, schema/compiler systems, or declarative configuration engines.

• Experience building or operating gateway/edge systems handling authentication, traffic admission, and third-party integrations at scale.

• Track record setting technical direction across multiple teams and mentoring senior engineers.

• Comfortable with a contract-first, public-facing surface mindset.

• OAuth/credential management experience a plus.

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
