Senior Vessel Operator ‎

Job Purpose and Impact

The Senior Vessel Operator will lead complex inbound and outbound logistical operations, including inventory management, warehousing and transportation to ensure sufficient supply of goods and products. In this role, you will provide consistent knowledge to complete complex tasks and resolve issues for standard modes of transport during shipments within multiple countries.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead the execution of the most complex and high-risk voyages and time charters, including sensitive destinations, governmental flows and strategic accounts.
• Act as the first escalation point for critical operational, contractual, reputational and P&L issues.
• Own running and final voyage P&L integrity for strategic portfolios, challenge material variances and drive corrective actions.
• Conduct advanced risk assessments, quantify exposures, recommend mitigations or provisions and track remediation.
• Negotiate complex operational outcomes with owners and customers.
• Partner with Commercial and Customer Account Managers on tactical planning and complex trades, including ownership of SOPs for strategic customers.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert or COE member in one or more technical domains and lead complex technical reviews.
• Coach Vessel Operators, build team capability, and reduce operational errors and escalations.
• Enforce SOPs and ensure charter-party, regulatory, safety, governance, and audit compliance.
• Engage with brokers, counterparties, and internal stakeholders to gather market intelligence and support trading execution.
• Drive process improvement, automation initiatives, knowledge sharing and effective handovers.

Qualifications

1. Minimum 4 years of relevant experience; typically 5 years or more preferred.
2. Seasoned individual contributor who works independently with limited supervision.
3. Capable of managing large projects or processes and handling difficult, often complex problems.
4. Able to coach and review the work of junior professionals and influence stakeholders beyond the immediate job area.
5. Advanced capability in:
   - Complex voyage planning and execution in compliance with maritime regulations.
   - Complex charter-party interpretation and high-value claims resolution.
   - One or more technical shipping specialisms, such as stowage, sustainable shipping, hold/hull cleaning, cargo gear, or vessel performance and routing.
