Job Summary

The Secondary Engineering – Protection & Substation Automation Engineer is responsible for complete engineering activities related to Protection Systems and Substation Automation Systems (SAS). The role includes design, setting calculations, parameterization, vendor coordination, training, and commissioning support to ensure reliable and compliant substation operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the entire engineering of Protection & Substation Automation Systems for HV/EHV substations.

  • Preparation and review of protection schemes including line, transformer, busbar, feeder, reactor, and capacitor bank protection.

  • Performing protection relay setting calculations and coordination studies.

  • Configuration and parameterization of Substation Automation Systems including IEDs, HMIs, gateways, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus, etc.).

  • Preparation of engineering documents such as SLDs, protection logic diagrams, schematics, interconnection diagrams, cable schedules, and BOQs.

  • Vendor engineering coordination including technical evaluation, document review, drawing approvals, FAT/SAT participation, and interface management.

  • Provide commissioning support including relay testing, troubleshooting, system validation, and site coordination.

  • Conduct technical training for customers and internal teams on protection schemes and substation automation systems.

  • Ensure compliance with client specifications, grid standards, and relevant IEC/IEEE standards.

  • Support project execution teams to meet project timelines and quality requirements.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Master’s preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of protection relays and substation automation systems.

  • Experience in protection setting calculations and coordination studies.

  • Hands-on experience in parameterization of numerical relays and SAS systems.

  • Knowledge of IEC 61850 and substation communication architecture.

  • Experience in vendor engineering and FAT/SAT activities.

  • Good analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel for site support and commissioning activities.
